I'll grant I watch entirely too many crime programs. Real crime, fake crime--I'm currently on a Criminal Minds kick, as they are running all the episodes in order on ION network at night and there are worse ways to go to sleep than watching Shemar Moore furrow his brow--crime documentaries, whatever. Pip claims my biggest obsession is bizarre diseases, but that's not necessarily true. I also have a thing about crime, and I've wondered why I didn't do something with that, something useful. (I have a thing with being aware of my own lack of usefulness, don't I? Yes, I know that.)

Sometimes, though, I watch these things and I wonder if sometimes there isn't some comfort in being the nutcase, the scariest person out there. If you know you're the sniper, does that provide some insulation from the evils of the world? Are you less likely to get mugged or burgled if you're the serial killer?

No, I'm not going on a spree or anything. Given my overdeveloped sense of justice and gruesome conscience I'd make a terrible criminal. I just wonder if people could lose their conscience first, or the conscience is a casualty of some more pragmatic motivation.

That's very insulting.

I'm sorry. Insult was not my intent.

I know. That's why I pointed out that that was insulting.

I have plenty of hobbies, but few of them require the entire attention of my mind, which, as you are aware, tends to wander.

And in my defense, Shemar Moore is rather handsome.

I do think it gives them that sense of power because their secret is so great and they show power over others as they kill so much surely that attitude takes over.

I haven't looked at the paper from yesterday to today, but last I heard there is a possibility that its someone on the police force or at least great knowledge in the force. Very Dexter

Which one? I wonder if it's the one that P said was the most twisted thing he'd ever seen.

I made outstanding jam today, by the by.

I find, more and more, that I've become that person that just "can't" watch a lot of this stuff. Worse, I seem unable to read more and more of it. I've always had a problem making images go away but I could always read anything and manage it in my head in such a way that it wouldn't haunt me. Since the smalls were born something won't let me push things away.

Not sure if the writing got darker or I got weaker. Either way...I'm also way to scattered to sit down to a tv show consistently. I'm so proud that I watched Castle all season. For two whole seasons. And it's not exactly high drama. And Nathan Fillion is hot. Heck, Stana Katic is hot:)

I think their consciences were broke to begin with.

I don't think they feel fear the same way. If the world came to an end Michael would be the hunter and I would be the hunted. It made me realize that He does not even feel fear in the same situations that I do. I don't think you need hobby I could talk about this forever.

uhh...

I was introduced to Criminal Minds by the boyfriend, but Joe Mantegna kept me watching it.I've developed what is probably an unhealthy affection for ex-jeans model Matthew Gubler. I want to wash his hair.

I've wondered that. Also I think you should write crime novels.

Nah, it doesn't scare me. And it's a hell of a lot better than the total crap put out by comedy writers, Trump, and reality shows. Most of what's on is unbearable.

Strange diseases and crimes are two of my interests as well, and part of the reason why I went into anthropology. I love watching Criminal Minds and all of those documentaries. I even have a serial killer section in library.

I have thought about getting back into forensics. It is quite a satisfying skill to be able to age and sex a skeleton.

I think you would be quite good in forensics. I have a feeling that you would pick up on subtle clues, especially ones that others might miss, and be able to fit them into the bigger picture with a natural ease.

I think I would be good at it, but it's one of those things where I think I missed the chance, you know? I wouldn't even know where to begin. And the only subject I ever hated was chemistry, so I certainly shouldn't be a lab person. :)

My mother thinks my dad and I read the most horrible books because we've traded these great tomes about polio, typhus, plague, you name it. I just think they're so interesting! Both in how they're spread and how it affects culture and everything. I need to get that cancer one that came out a couple years ago.

Which book is that? This one? If so, it was a great and fascinating read. I have some stained HeLa cells in my collection and it was so strange to actually read about the life of the woman that they came from. It put a lot of things in perspective.

I am always looking for interesting reads. What were the books on typhus and the plague?

No, this one. (http://www.amazon.com/Emperor-All-Maladies-Biography-Cancer/dp/1439107955/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1305836941&sr=1-1) I read about the HeLa cells in a long magazine article a while ago, but haven't read the book.

I cannot remember the typhus one. I'll see if I can find it. There's also cholera (http://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Map-Steven-Johnson/dp/1594489254/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1305837023&sr=1-1), and the plague one was The Great Mortality. (http://www.amazon.com/Great-Mortality-Intimate-History-Devastating/dp/0060006935/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1305837082&sr=1-1) Ghost Map is a really interesting story, but not the most well-written because the writer gets a little repetitive about some things.
