Two days ago, Anya accidentally pulled the foam covering--looks like a pink doughnut--off of her earphones. We tore the house apart looking for it. We looked everywhere. She remembered it being in the living room, so we looked all over. We opened the ottomans, looked on every flat surface, under everything, took the house apart. Beth was here, and she helped look too.

Anya got lectured for breaking the earphone and not telling us, since had she done so we could have fixed it immediately. She got upset when she realized that her earphones wouldn't be too comfortable without the foam ear covering, and we all continued to look. We were baffled. The damn thing wasn't anywhere.

It was still missing when she went to bed. The next morning, she went to school, and we were going to resume the hunt when she got home. Not long after that, Beth stopped by. She walked in and set down Elise, then said, "Oh, who found it?"

"Found what?"
"The earpiece."
"Nobody. We haven't found it yet."
Beth pointed to the ottoman. "It's right there."

And lo, there was the earpiece, sitting squarely in the middle of the ottoman, which had had nothing atop it when Anya left (and Ez had been playing with me all morning). A small Iron Man toy was standing in the center of it, obviously arranged.

All three adults and two children had looked there the day before. We had lifted and moved things. It was not there. It was not there when I went to bed. It was not there when Anya left for school, because her backpack is right next to that ottoman and it was empty. It's just weird, I tell you.

Thank you for bringing it back, Jacob.
